dover, salt, gratin

Domestic electric oven, Dover sea water, Dover sea salt, distilled water, poem/recipe, gratin (potato, milk, cheese, butter, pepper, Dover sea salt)
The composition of minerals and salts in seawater is very similar to that of amniotic fluid. The ocean is an ancient womb, body, border, passage and archive.

This work is a meditation and investigation on the ocean in relation to separation, belonging, and planetary connectedness. A DIY process of extracting salt from seawater collected in Dover (a border, a passage, an archive) is linked with the preparation of a family gratin recipe. By personally gathering seawater, as well as preparing food and ingesting it, my body performs the past and/in the present, whilst becoming part of the landscape and part of a recipe.
